Q&As for Kids

Notebook and Stinky CecilI’ve been speaking to groups of children about Stinky Cecil in Operation Pond Rescue, and at the end of each event, we open up the floor for questions. I’ve decided to post some of the questions I have received here, along with the answers, for those who might be curious.

As you’ll see, kids ask tough questions:

Q: What is your dog’s name and how much does he weigh?
A: His name is Buddy Barker, and he weighs about 7 pounds.

Q: Where is Mississippi?
A: Mississippi is in the southern part of the United States, in between Alabama and Louisiana.

Q: Why doesn’t Jeremy have arms?
A: Because he’s an earthworm.

Q: Why don’t you make Jeremy a caterpillar, so he could turn into a butterfly?
A: Because then he wouldn’t be an earthworm. Listen, he’s come to terms with the fact that he’s an earthworm.

Q: Why is Reggie a fly and not a moth?
A: I thought it would be funnier if he were a fly.

Q: What’s an in-law?
A: Well, when you get married, the parents, brother, or sister of the person you marry is an “in-law.” If you marry someone who has a brother then his or her brother is your brother-in-law.

Q: Do you own The Redwood Empire Ice Arena (also known as “Snoopy’s Home Ice”)?
A: No, but they have a café there where I like to eat grilled cheese sandwiches.

Q: Why aren’t there any girls in Stinky Cecil in Operation Pond Rescue?
A: There are girls in the story. They just didn’t fit on the book’s cover.

Q: What is Cecil?
A: He’s a toad.

Q: What does free-range mean?
A: It means you get to run around without being in a cage.

Do you have any Stinky Cecil in Operation Pond Rescue questions? Post them as a comment below or email them to StinkyCecil@gmail.com and I’ll do my best to answer them promptly. I may also add the questions to this list. Happy comics reading!
